Help the children of Mozambique and see Matilda, The Musical 👧

Matilda, The Musical, a stage musical based on the 1988 children’s novel by Roald Dahl, has been a smash hit ever since it debuted in London in 2010. Winner of over 85 international awards, including 16 for Best Musical, it’s a show like no other that continues to delight audiences everywhere from West End to Broadway. eSolidar is auctioning two tickets for the show at The Cambridge Theater in London donated by The Really Useful Group to help UK’s fundraising A Little Gesture A Great Help.

A Little Gesture A Great Help UK is a charity that works exclusively in Mozambique, specifically in the Gaza province. They focus their efforts on improving the living conditions of underprivileged children and their families by investing funds in nutrition, basic housing, and small-scale community.

Mozambique is one of the poorest countries in the world. Statistics show that in Mozambique, 70% of people live under $2/day. A Little Gesture finances school feeding costs of at least two meals a day for 160 children attending an orphan centre, provides a 24-hour home for 20 orphans with food, study groups and technical education, and a daycare centre for 50 HIV-infected children with food, medical support, and technical education.

The organisation is recovering and reconstructing family huts (including equipment, sanitation, and limited furniture & equipment) and building water wells to reduce walking distance to a safe water source, as 57% of the population has no access to safe water, and in rural areas, this rises to 70%.

Education is a key factor to break the cycle of poverty and in a country where only 4% of children have access to some type of pre-school education and only 44% of students complete elementary school. Illiteracy is high and 60% of adults cannot read or write, a statistic higher amongst women.

A Little Gesture A Great Help supports academic and technical education for children and young adults in pre-school, holds after-class group study centres, literacy courses and technical and skills-based education like carpentry, blacksmith, sewing, literacy, IT and local arts & crafts so they have the resources to provide for themselves in the future.

To empower families and help them develop income-generating activities to eradicate poverty, they have projects for self-sustainability like chicken farms and basic farming techniques classes or other micro-activities.
