Elemental Desires
Sexual alchemy—a spell
Fire, walk with me;
Swallow me whole and incinerate me
Scoop up my smoldering ashes and breathe —
Air, dance with me;
With your lips, your tongue, you entangle me
I cling to your sweaty skin and weep —
Water, drink with me;
Flood my rivers. My gushing wells
confluence with your sediments, to find shore —
Earth, lay with me;
Assemble gently my burning bones
Hold me like a broken bird in your hands —
An elemental is a mythic being that is described in occult and alchemical works from around the time of the European Renaissance and particularly elaborated in the 16th-century works of Paracelsus. According to Paracelsus and his subsequent followers, there are four categories of elementals, which are salamanders, sylphs, nymphs and pygmies. These correspond to the four Empedoclean elements of antiquity: fire, air, water, and earth respectively.
