This last month was marked by hard work and hitting one of the biggest milestones since the very beginning of the project — Mainnet release! Keep on reading if you would like to follow our every step towards this goal.

Blockchain

As it was already mentioned, this month we officially released the Essentia mainnet. October 28, 2019, will be marked as a new page in the history of the project. The blockchain we present to the world is an open-source peer-to-peer network with Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus algorithm and masternode functionality focused on decentralization and real-world use.

During the last few weeks, a lot of work has been done in order for the Essentia mainnet to run smoothly. We were making final preparations and adding finishing touches before the release. This included constant heavy testings to make sure the network is stable and error-proof.

Please, take into consideration that you will have the opportunity to set up your masternodes only after the token swap has taken place. We are already finalizing it and it is scheduled to be started shortly. While we wait, please check out this guide on how to deploy your masternode beforehand in order to make sure it goes as smooth as possible. You can run your node on Linux (preferably), and Windows. Other operation systems are under development at the moment.

Note: To run your masternodes on Windows, you need to previously install Docker for Windows. Then just activate the node using the following command:

docker run -d devess/essd:latest

As we are always trying to simplify and improve the operability of the Essentia products, and having taken our community suggestion into account, this month we have also continued the development of the masternode auto-deploy from the Essentia wallet directly. This feature will be rather useful for non-tech-savvies, who want to participate in the network yet don’t know how to install the masternode using consoles. Or for everyone who just wants to make the overall process quicker and easier. For this feature to work, we developed its design and user flow, as well as started working on the development of server scripts.

Mobile

Though, as we mentioned earlier, we are now mostly focused on blockchain development. However, we try our best to continue improving our mobile application.

At Essentia, we have always rooted for top-notch security. That is why our products have a few security layers and we are glad to announce that have added another one. From now on, the app content in a multitasking view will be hidden. Though it may seem as a minor improvement, practically this will help you protect your private information from a curious eye and have a more personal experience.

Additionally, we also keep on working on:

  • The app’s UI/UX: the black theme is under development.
  • The number of coins & tokens: ESS coin has been added, working on the Bitcoin Cash implementation to the Android app.
  • Optimization: we continue adding new API methods to optimize internal requests.

Desktop

As we are preparing the Desktop application, namely the native wallet for the token swap, most of the updates are blockchain-related. However, apart from that we also worked on some major performance improvements as well. Here’s what we did:

  • Started database improvements with data structure alterations.
  • Optimized API methods in the dappstore for faster database queries.
  • Improved functionality for storing user settings and data on the remote config.
  • Improved the error handling during authentication.
  • Improved authentication flows.

Also, we are always improving the user experience of the application. For instance, we are currently working on adding the black theme for the Wallet. We have also updated the animations for screen transitions to improve the application flow.

Documents

A large portion of our effort is also dedicated to collect the data and arrange the technical documentation. We continue expanding the Essentia Architecture document, mentioned in last month’s report. We’re adding in more information about the blockchain and its operation to make sure our users are as informed as possible.

In addition, we are collecting the most frequently asked questions by our community on all of our platforms, and answering them in the most elaborate and understandable manner. This way we can ensure that our community is knowledgeable of every Essentia process and product.

The documentation will soon we updated and released — so stay tuned for the announcement!

What’s next?

The following days we will be focusing on finalizing the token swap procedure. We are dedicated to making sure it goes without any hitch for every Essentia user: you will be able to make it done directly from the Essentia wallet in just a few clicks.

Apart from that, we will also start the development of the masternode auto-deploy from the Desktop application, which will also allow the users to set up a masternodes much more easily and quickly.

Overall, we will still be more focused on improving the Essentia mainnet, so make sure to follow us on social media to be the first to know! Or, revisit the Weekly update article every Monday to learn every little development.
