Harris: Trump Turns Our Tragedies Into Political Weapons
Kamala Harris launched a direct attack on Donald Trump during her acceptance speech for the Vice Presidential nomination at last night’s virtual Democratic National Convention (DNC).
Harris, a daughter of Indian and Jamaican immigrants, will be the first women of colour to run for Vice President in the United States’ history, after she was officially nominated to share the ticket with former Vice President to Barrack Obama, Joe Biden. And the platform that Biden and Harris are running on is painstakingly clear. Harris launched a direct attack on Donald Trump and his disastrous presidency that has led to America becoming, by far, the worst affected nation by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the collapse of their economy to its worst levels since the Great Depression. There have also been a series of which have created a massive cultural divide in America.
It is upon this divisiveness that Harris launched her primary criticism against Trump in her virtual speech.
“We’re at an inflexion point,” Harris said, as reported by .
“Right now we have a president who turns our tragedies into political weapons. Constant chaos leaves us adrift. The incompetence makes us feel afraid. The callousness makes us feel alone. It’s a lot. And here’s the thing — we can do better and deserve so much more.”
“We must elect a president who will bring something different, something better, and do the important work — a president who will bring all of us together — Black, white, Latino, Asian, Indigenous — to achieve the future we collectively want.”

Of course, without discrediting her criticism of Trump, Harris didn’t actually say anything of substance. She didn’t mention a single policy, she didn’t say how she and Joe Biden will fix these deep systemic issues that have been a problem in America long before Donald Trump entered the scene. As a prosecutor, you’d expect she may have said something about criminal justice reform and how to fix America’s broken, two-tiered justice system which has led to the mass incarceration of millions upon millions of her fellow citizens, predominantly black Americans.
She said nothing about climate change policy or any infrastructure projects targeted at saving the planet. She said nothing about fixing America’s healthcare system, at a time when access to healthcare couldn’t be more important — amidst a global pandemic.
Really, it doesn’t take a deep dive into political analysis on her speech to see that Kamala Harris will play off of her position as a diversity candidate and speak in platitudes, rather than actually break ground on critical issues that will determine the well-being of every White, Black, Latino, Asian and Indigenous American.
Really, it’s the same kind of virtue signalling tactics employed by Hillary Clinton in 2016. She is putting herself up on the pedestal of moral high ground over Donald Trump (wow, what an achievement), but is not doing her job as a prospective VP, which is to find solutions to societal problems, not to say that she is “opposed to racism” or she’s “for unity”. Anybody can say that, Kamala. It’s a very low bar that you’re setting. How are you going to change things?
