Man Shot After Apparent Trump Assassination Attempt

United States President Donald Trump was rushed out of the White House press briefing room by US Secret Service agents after shots were fired outside of the building.

While taking part in a media briefing, Mr Trump was approach by an agent, who whispered something in his ear. The president was then heard saying “Oh!” and “What’s happening” as he left the room, as reported by . He returned nine minutes later after the White House was put under lockdown.

Trump said the situation was under control before the USSS confirmed that there had been an “officer involved shooting at 17th Street and Pennsylvania Ave”. The male suspect and a USSS officer were subsequently transported to the hospital, but the USSS added that the White House had been breached and that nobody was in danger. Trump confirmed that the suspect was armed “from what I understand”. However, the president stopped short of saying that it was an assassination attempt or presuming that the shooter had any ill-intent towards him.

“It might not have had anything to do with me,” the president said, acknowledging that it was an unusual situation, but praising the USSS.

“It’s unfortunate that this is the world, but the world’s always been a dangerous place. It’s not something that’s unique.

“The world has been, if you look back over the centuries, the world has been a dangerous place, very dangerous place, and it will continue, I guess, for a period of time.”

Trump explained that he, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought were escorted into the Oval Office, where the doors were locked, after leaving the briefing room.
