Why Merely Exist When You Can Live? Take a Chance Day 2017

I’m all about taking chances. You have to ask yourself, if you’re not taking any chances, are you actually even living? Every time you walk out of your door and you’re out in the world, you take a chance of not coming back. That is the dynamic and danger of being alive.

We commemorate some pretty uncommon holidays here in the US. In addition to 420 Day, April’s list of includes, National Tatting Day, Peanut Butter and Jelly Day, Rubber Eraser Day, Blah, Blah, Blah Day, and on April 23rd, Take a Chance Day.

Its origins of this obscure, inspirational holiday are unknown but I imagine it was created by someone who knew a few things about missed opportunities and regrets.

It’s the day we get to dust of our wish lists and adopt a “don’t start none, won’t be none” attitude towards manifesting our hearts’ desires; say “f*ck it” to the doubts, worries and empty excuses that keep us from living our best lives. Most of us are ruled by our obligations, rather than our passions. Taking chances allow us to reverse that trend (if only for one day) and show us that we are capable of conquering our fears.

Naturally, the art of risk-taking varies from person to person. Grand gestures are welcome, but hardly required.

Take a Chance Day is all about stepping out of our comfort zones and the norms that confine us. It’s an exercise of living, in every sense of the word. What does taking a chance mean to you? It could be as simple as trying new cuisine, or as bold as a death defying skydive.

I’m keeping it basic this year: I plan on saying “yes” more on Take a Chance Day — a challenge in and of itself with 2 sweet-but-rambunctious kids under my wing.

This Sunday, April 23rd, how far will you venture outside the box?
