Blog Post: Week 4

We’ve been continuing the prototyping process for our metering system, and have determined the key components that will enable us to measure power, current, and voltage. We’ve also been recently receiving these parts in the mail (current clamp, Huawei modem, etc.) and will proceed to integrated them into the system. We are currently having difficulty getting the Raspberry Pi to recognize the modem as a cellular device that can send SMS messages; at the moment, the Pi treats it as a USB Storage device and thus does not enable a script to send SMS messages. We’re working on this issue and will hopefully have it resolved within the next few weeks. In the meantime, we’re planning on attending lab training and then assembling the components of the metering system, with Professor Fox’s guidance.
