Thank you for joining our Renewable Energy Communal Metering System project team from the Stanford Chapter of Engineers for a Sustainable World as we get started on this brand new project for 2016! We will be working with IBEKA, a non-governmental organization (NGO) in Indonesia. We have worked with them for the past three years on two different projects and hope to continue doing so for many more.

Our new project, currently dubbed the Renewable Energy Communal Metering System (RECMS), will work fairly close with the continuing IBEKA project from last year, the Micro-Hydro Plant Remote Monitoring System (MHP RMS).

The RECMS is intended to bill and meter the energy usage of multiple households in a community being powered by micro-hydro plants. Ideally, it will be powered via renewable sources — such as the sun or the MHP itself — and have remote control/monitoring capabilities like the RMS project. With this device, IBEKA hopes to simplify and reduce the installation cost of billing and metering equipment while also building up relationships within the communities being served by the micro-hydro plants.

Our work is just getting started, so stay tuned with more updates soon!
