8 takeaways from E3 2019
In case you weren’t paying attention last week, here’s a summary of the Electronic Entertainment Expo, so you at least understand all the memes.
Last week was the 2019 edition of the Electronic Entertainment Expo, better known as E3. Gamers everywhere pay close attention to this global event, where big and small studios announce their upcoming game and hardware launches.
In case you missed it all, here’s a summary of the main news so you can at least understand all the memes.
1) Zelda got a haircut
Nintendo previewed the sequel to Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, where princess Zelda sports a cool new haircut. They also showed images of Luigi’s Mansion 3 and the Link’s Awakening remake, and confirmed that Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be delayed.
2) There are new pokemons
Also from Nintendo, there is a playable demo of Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, that will come out this November. Though the games themselves got mixed opinions, the whole world agrees on one thing: we all love Wooloo, a little sheep with braids that only wants peace.
3) Everybody loves Keanu
Microsoft is coming up with a new Xbox, known for now as Project Scarlett, and an elite controller. But what really got people excited was seeing Keanu Reeves both in the trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 and the press conference.
4) Still some Avengers to go around
The Marvel franchise is not even close to being over after Avengers: Endgame. In May 2020 Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers is coming out. Outside of the movies’ storyline, it will allow users to play as their favorite superheroes. That is, unless they’re fans of Capitan America, who dies in the opening scene.
Also in 2020, Square Enix will launch the long awaited first part of the Final Fantasy VII remake.
5) FIFA, come rain or come shine
EA showed some of the improvements in FIFA 20, the next installment of a classic game. One of the changes will be a greater protagonism for women’s soccer. It also brought a demo of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, set after the events of Revenge of the Sith and following the story of young jedi Cal Kestis.
6) Sony was a no show
The company passed on the event, but was still one of the most tweeted about.
7) The Winds of Winter is never coming out
If you still hope that George R. R. Martin will save A Song of Ice and Fire with a decent ending, it won’t be anytime soon. Instead of writing the next novel in the series, the superstar writer has been collaborating with FromSoftware to create the world and mythology of its new game Elden Ring.
8) They keep promising VR
Oculus introduced its new VR headset, Oculus Quest. Super cheap: this line starts at 399 dollars. That’s great.
