The Department of Decentralization is always looking for relevant partners to fulfil our mandate to support initiatives for the broader community, such as the Goerli Testnet and the B9 labs Community Blockstars education program.

Most recently, we jumped at the chance to be the Community Sponsor for the upcoming Special Projects & Decentralized Engineering Company (SPADE) Run EVM event in Berlin on the 16th of April 2019 at Factory Görlitzer Park Berlin.

“When we decided to organise the Run EVM event in Berlin, we knew that DoD was the most plugged in team that knew everyone and got things done. We were happy that DoD immediately thought it was a good idea and offered to help with some basics on the ground. DoD also aligns with our point of view on running conferences: value for sponsors, value for attendees, and support for speakers who take time to come and present.”

-Boris Mann, SPADE

Run EVM is the first event focused on the Ethereum Virtual Machine, targeted at people who are interested in sharing information, learning about new sidechain approaches, making connections with potential partners and customers, and working together to improve and extend the EVM specification. The smart contract stack on top of the EVM is the largest in the world, and further adoption for the use cases outside of main-net Ethereum are only making it bigger.

After talking to many different groups about their ideas for the evolution of the EVM, SPADE began to discover that the EVM was used much more broadly than just main-net Ethereum. Realising that there was such a large community with shared interests, they decided to put on an event which gathered everyone together, to share latest work, and to kick off further collaboration in a global community.

“There are alternate chains that just inherit the main specification, but then there are also groups like Hyperledger or JP Morgan’s Quorum that maintain their own implementation. We even found that Microsoft Research had implemented an MIT-licensed EVM targeted at running inside secure enclave, and all of them in one way or another tie into the smart contract languages and tooling that execute on the EVM.”

-Boris Mann, SPADE

At Run EVM, you’ll be able to find out everything there is to know about the EVM, who’s using it, for what purposes, and what the plans are for future evolution in the following topic areas:

  • EVM standards and improvements, including formal verification and security analysis
  • Sidechains that work with the EVM
  • Trusted computing that uses the EVM to run secure code on top of
  • Private enterprise usage
  • From enterprise to large dapp developers, finance tech to research, open source developers, this is the place to be if you’re working on cutting edge smart contracts and the client software that supports them.

As a special bonus, you can get a 15% discount on Run EVM tickets using the code: dodrocks
