Buenos Aires is ready to receive the global hacking community, and some have already started popping around the hacker houses and meeting the teams that made this new event happen.

But most of you are trying to survive the Blockchain week and about to head down South, so we thought we’d write this guide so you can recover from the NY hangover and come refreshed and prepared to BUIDL.

How’s the hackathon structured?

We have carefully designed the schedule to allow you to BUIDL without getting the FOMOs. What does this mean? Most talks (which, not humblebragging but we’ve got some pretty cool content) will take place during the opening day, Friday 25th.

On Saturday there are only two panels so there’s no room for funny business, hackers gonna hack, for 36 hours to be exact. Finally on Monday, we’ll have a nice breakfast and then… Judgement Day! Sorry, got overly excited — judging time, followed by a nice lunch together and the winners’ announcement. More details on the schedule here.

HODL UP — so, no party?

We thought you’d jump on the gun over that question, so we left it out of the previous question intentionally. We’re Argentinians. We celebrate EVERYTHING. Of course, there’s a party — and a great one, actually. Placeholder is co-hosting this celebration, and it’s happening on the 27th at 7PM, and ending… go figure.

This seems really promising — what happens if I’m not confirmed as a volunteer, speaker, or I haven’t gotten a ticket?

Unfortunately, the venue has a restricted capacity, so as much as we would like to invite everyone we know, including our abuelitas, this is not possible. If you don’t have a ticket you won’t be able to come in — and no sweet talking will help. Latinos also need to stick to rules.

Now to the most important bit — FOOD. Will there be food?

Our amazing organizing team has really made the best effort in this particular subject. In Argentina, we take our nourishment very seriously. Expect an amazing menu. Seriously — we took a look and it’s mouth-watering to even read about it.

WOW to everything — another question, will we get SWAG?

Not to brag again — well, yeah, Argentinians are known for bragging. But we got some really sick swag ready for you all.

Do we get a place to have a break from such an intense schedule?

Of course! Relaxing is important. We need to keep that code you’ll as beautiful as possible. So fresh eyes and a clear mind are key — we’ll have plenty of relax areas. Only we won’t reveal them until you get to the venue, just for the sake of building some anticipation.

Will you refund travel expenses?

We’ll give priority to local volunteers, as one of our goals with this event is to involve the people of Buenos Aires. If you decided to sign up as a volunteer and come from afar, keep in mind our budget doesn’t allow us to pay for travel expenses. Same applies to hackers, apologies but we have a budget to stick to.

How’s the weather in Argentina?

So, basically, you got a smartphone. Click the icon “weather” and you will see how it will look like next week. Spoiler: its Fall here in the Southern Hemisphere! Bring a light jacket. Rain in BA is really unpredictable, so if you ask locals, you’ll get this as an answer: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Do your own research for God’s sake…

Anything else I need to note?

Yes — we have many volunteers that you can reach out to ask anything. Whether you want us to call you a cab, give you some tips for the city for the afterhack or anything you may need during the hackathon, find us and don’t be shy!
