In case you missed it

You may have heard the rumours and now we can finally confirm that they’re true!

Africa’s FIRST ETHGlobal hackathon just got the green light!

Which means…

Hello ETHCapeTown!!!

We’re incredibly excited to announce that all you lovely Ethereans will have the opportunity to BUIDL ‘all the things’ in the beautiful tech-hub of Cape Town, South Africa in April 2019.

Now is the time to get excited because we can’t wait to share what we have in store for you! We’re putting in the hard work way in advance to make this the WILDEST ETH hackathon yet.

Giphy

South Africa has always been a country interested in emerging technology and its potential to help cultivate and grow the economy. This is why we’re so proud to be hosting the biggest Ethereum hackathon ever to hit African soil, right here in the Mother City, the land of flat mountains and flat whites.

All your need to knows

It’s dAppening!

After months of keeping this a secret, we are thrilled that it’s finally been given the go ahead.

We understand that everyone has commitments; family, pets, that pesky bonsai and even a CryptoKitty here and there, so we know that you need to make your plans well in advance too.

So here’s what you need to know:

Did the lightbulb in your head just switch on? Yup, yebo, yes! Our hackathon is just before Afrikaburn. So for all you burners, this is the perfect opportunity to crank out some code before you head off to the middle of the Tankwa Karoo for a desert adventure. So save those dates!

We’ll just wait here while you add that to your calendar.

The spirit of the event

ETHCapeTown brings together developers, hackers and curious minds that are passionate about building a decentralized future. Our aim is for participants to come together to experience, build and discover great projects, make friends and life-long connections, and collaborate in a true open source community.

Much like the Mother City, ETHCapeTown is bringing together heaps of diverse cultures. We want to ensure that everyone has access to this radically inclusive, educational and empowering event, reflecting what it truly feels like to be a part of the Rainbow Nation.

Regardless of gender, age, race or background; everyone is welcome. That’s right, we’re calling all developers, students, entrepreneurs, enthusiasts, visionaries and more. Everyone should have equal opportunity to be part of an event that is contributing toward the decentralised future that we are shaping.

The setting

What can you expect at the ETHCapeTown hackathon?

Leading minds in the blockchain space will join over 200 hackers from around the world to collaborate together on decentralised applications using Ethereum. With an exponential increase in adoption, developer interest and other teams building on top of Ethereum, we want to highlight local and international talent who are working towards building the Web3.

Generally, it takes a lot of moving parts to make sure that an event like this makes waves. From the organisers, sponsors, mentors, and volunteers, to all the behind the scenes hackathon planning, none of this would be possible without YOU.

Embrace your inner Capetonian, bru

It wouldn’t be right if we didn’t share a few of our favourite Capetonian things with you. Let’s just say it’ll keep you busy before we release some of the more ‘juicy’ details.

Local hacks to get you started:

Remember, whatever you happen to stumble across on Google, the only thing better than coming to Cape Town for the first time, is visiting for a second.

What’s next on the POA (Plan Of Action)?

Along with BlockchainWeekZA, ETHCapeTown is exactly the type of event that the blockchain space needs to advance the conversations and key ideas that will allow for development to thrive.

So for now, sit back, relax and keep an eye out for further details. We’ll be releasing everything you need to know in the upcoming weeks. Next steps include 1) hacker applications 2) mentor applications and 3) volunteer applications and 4) sponsor applications.

We have an incredible team of organisers working hard to bring this event to life. This is where the real BUIDL magic happens.
