Ambre tells us why EthCC is the best blockchain event in the calendar and how she assisted the set up of a VC track this year, to both help blockchain startups fundraise, and investors deploy capital in the space.

Welcome to EthCC Voices, the Medium Series from the speakers of EthCC[3]. Taking place on 3–5 March 2020, the conference organised by Ethereum France is regarded as Europe’s leading Ethereum conference for the community by the community!

Today, I got to talk to Ambre Soubiran, CEO of Kaiko, and she shared about the impact EthCC has had on her business and community, and the format of the new VC track that she’s spearheading at the conference this year.

Let’s delve straight into our conversation…

Hi Ambre, tell us a bit about yourself and your background…

“My name is Ambre, I’m the CEO of Kaiko, an enterprise-grade market data provider in the blockchain-based digital assets industry. Prior to joining Kaiko, I spent eight years at HSBC in London and Paris, structuring equity derivatives and equity-based financing solutions. I have a passion for world-changing technology, and have been interested in digital assets for over five years. I am a member of the Scientific Committee and on the Board of the Fondation Concorde, a renowned French think-tank, where I am leading a working group on blockchain-based transformations of European capital markets (DeFi).”

What does Kaiko do?

“Founded in 2014, Kaiko is a market data provider in the blockchain-based digital assets industry, providing institutional investors and market participants with enterprise-grade data infrastructure. Kaiko collects, normalizes, stores, and distributes digital assets market data via a Live Stream Websocket, Market Data API, and cloud-based Data Feed. Kaiko’s raw trade data, order books and aggregates, cover 7,500+ currency pairs across 50+ exchanges, with new markets added every day. With headquarters in Paris, they also have offices in NYC and Tokyo.”

Why did you want to be a part of EthCC 3 & what do you plan to do at the conference?

“I have been attending since the first edition and my company, Kaiko, has been sponsoring each year. We have hired great people, met customers and partners, as well as investors. I personally think EthCC is the best blockchain event as far as content and community goes.”

How has EthCC impacted your community so far?

“We’ve connected more with our customers and users, and partnered with other companies to provide novel solutions for the space (i.e. data for DeFi applications through iExec’s platform).”

What cryptocurrency trends do you think will be big in 2020?

“DeFi!”

Are you hosting an event or launching a product in line with EthCC?

“Yes, we are announcing our partnership with iExec over a workshop.”

Anything else you want to add?

“This year, I personally pushed the organisers to setup a VC track to help blockchain startups fundraise, and investors deploy capital in the space. Confirmed VCs include Anthemis, IdInvest, Kima Ventures, BPI France, Blockwall Capital, PointNine Capital, Whitestar, and more are still to be announced .

This track will take place over three days of the conference with a workshop on the first day aimed at helping entrepreneurs fundraise. Days two and three will be dedicated to pitches and networking between startups and investors.”
