In this conversation, Louise highlights the developments in the regenerative finance (ReFi) sphere, particularly with decentralized MRV solutions. She is also excited about the shift towards intent-based architecture, and its potential impact on regenerative finance and green crypto assets.

Welcome to EthCC Voices, the Medium Series for the EthCC community. Taking place in Brussels from 8–11 July 2024, the conference organised by Ethereum France is regarded as Europe’s leading Ethereum conference for the community by the community!

Louise Borreani, Co-Founder of The Regen Atlas, a location-based interface for discovering, trading, and tokenizing of a wide diversity of green crypto-assets.

What do you think are the highlight moments in crypto over the past year?

In the regenerative finance sphere where I am most present, I’ve seen noteworthy progress with decentralised MRV solutions. These solutions have boosted the number of native on-chain green assets such as Open Forest Protocol’s Credits and Regen Network’s Biodiversity Credits. The overall offer of tokenised green assets has increased on-chain, benefiting the environmental markets.

Other highlights include the marriage of AI and Web3, Celo’s recent move to become an Ethereum L2 and, the growing popularity of RetroPGF funding methods which is a great forward-thinking approach to financing public goods.

What are some new trends you think will emerge over the next 12 months, and which ones are you excited about?

I’m stoked about the shift towards more intent-based architecture and its potential to shape ReFi and green crypto assets. I am also excited about the momentum Web3GIS, Real World Asset (RWA) tokenisation, and DePIN have been gaining this year. For a deeper dive into what’s brewing in the green crypto markets, you should check out the Green Crypto Handbook. Sneak a peek at some free chapters here.

How has being a part of the EthCC impacted you/ your team thus far?

It’s been great to meet new people and reconnect with old friends. EthCC serves as a perfect gathering spot for our Regen Atlas team, who are based across different continents, to come together in person and build.

What impact do you think Ethereum updates this year will have on the overall ecosystem, crypto projects, and mainstream adoption?

I believe this year’s updates, which focus on enhancing network performance, security, and scalability, should significantly strengthen the Ethereum ecosystem. These improvements will pave the way for quicker and broader mainstream adoption.

Anything else to add?

I’d like to give a big shoutout to the AsteriskDAO team. They’re developing decentralised data lakes for women’s health research, specifically targeting non-reproductive issues — an area surprisingly underexplored in DeSci. If you’re a woman dealing with OCD and this strikes a chord with you, I highly recommend jumping on their waitlist at asteriskdao.xyz. It’s a great initiative to keep an eye on!

Also, our Regen Atlas prototype is up and running! We want it to be collaborative, so if you’re issuing green crypto-assets or know someone who does, pop over to the Atlas at regenatlas.xyz, click “Add Assets,” and let’s connect. We’d love to chat and learn more about any ReFi initiative!
