What Is Gitcoin?
“Gitcoin is a place that you can get coins in exchange for working on open source software. We’re helping software developers create financial sovereignty for themselves and their families by giving them an opportunity to earn, learn, and connect with other people that are working on the blockchain-based internet and hopefully, increasingly owning a piece of the blockchain-based internet. We’re doing about 50k to 100k worth of hackathon prizes to open source software developers every month. And we also run a couple of other campaigns that allow open source software developers to get coins, the most famous of which is Gitcoin grants, which you can kind of think of as a crypto-enabled Patreon or Kickstarter, where you can raise money for the work that you’re already doing in blockchain-based open source software. So all in all, about $500,000 per month of coins are being git-ed by software developers on Gitcoin.”
What Should BUIDLers of ETHDenver know?
“I think hackathons are a really great tool to dip your toes in without jumping all the way in the deepend. And the really cool thing about not only ETHDenver’s virtual hackathon, but Gitcoin’s virtual hackathons, is that you can get coins in exchange for working on open source software. So the only thing better than learning about new technology is getting paid to learn about new technology and hackathons like to do that.”
What Are You Excited About in Our Industry Right Now?
“I’ve been really into this idea of region finance recently. So as opposed to degenerative finance that’s only focused on, ‘What is good for me now? How do I make as much money for myself?’, with region finance, we’re focused on, ‘How do we build community? How do we build a better future for ourselves and for our community?’. And so building financial schemes that can help communities grow together and invest in each other I think will be a stronger financial system as a foundation for our digital internet, and also as a foundation for the world.”

“I’m really excited about the opportunity to reinvent the financial system in a way that creates more transparency and more stability for our digital infrastructure. I am based in Boulder, Colorado so during a normal ETHDenver, you’d be able to find me physically onsite shilling Colorado, but this year I will be shilling Colorado virtually, both in a talk that I’m going to be giving about quadratic funding, which is a funding model for public goods open source software, and I will also be virtually roaming around the the the virtual space for the conference hopefully in a Bufficorn outfit that that I’m going to be purchasing, so that I can stand out and shill Colorado.
