Curious about BUIDLing at ETHDenver & ColoradoJam 2021 with Polkadot but wanting more details on their project? Get the scoop from their recent interview with ETHDenver:

What Is Polkadot?

“So Polkadot is a heterogeneous, sharted, multichain. So obviously, that’s a lot of jargon. But at the end of the day, it really just provides a unopinionated base layer for developers to launch their own optimized layer one blockchains.

These things that we call parachains, it’s a little different than what a lot of you are probably familiar with, with ETH2.0, which is also a sharded, multichain, but the difference is with Ethereum that every shard is the same and you don’t really get to choose necessarily what the parameterizations are for that for that shard, or where you sort of exist on Ethereum. It’s all sort of just a one-size fits all solution. Polkadot on, the other hand, allows you to actually own a shard and do whatever you want with it.”

How Can BUIDLers Get Involved?

“There’s a framework underlying Polkadot that actually Polkadot is built on itself that’s called substrate. And this allows people to, you know, really create and deploy their own solutions for their own blockchains really, really quickly. So why we’re interested in hackathons is really to see new creative and innovative ideas from developers, creators, makers of all of all sorts, and what they come up with.

Creating your own blockchain is very much a low level type of task. And usually, more senior developers and people with more experience are more prone to jumping in there. What we’re going to focus on with us being here at ETHDenver this year is really that- that build a blockchain track. But there actually should be some other teams that are in the ecosystem and Polkadot that are going to be there that really focus on the application level.”

What Else Should We Know?

“The final milestone in the Polkadot launch process is the deployment of a pair of chains, which we expect to see quite soon. If you’re following the progress on our Rococo V1 testnet, I think we have if you’re watching this at the event, we’ll have I think between 10 and 12 pairs of chains running on the Rococo testnet. So again, these are optimized layer ones that teams around the world are building using substrate and hoping to deploy as a pair of chains on Polkadot.

Right now, I think that there’s one pair of chains that is optimized for ZK Rollups, which is running on Rococo. There is a couple of smart contract parachains up on Rococo; some of these DeFi-optimized parachains were the protocols optimized for building and launching stablecoins like Acala and general purpose DeFi ecosystems are all coming live on Rococco the testnet and we expect to see that those those protocols to launch to mainnet in the next couple of weeks and months. This is obviously super exciting because it is the core proposition of Polkadot: being able to build and launch these, these optimized layer one parachains,

Polkadot is first and foremost, a gigantic and flourishing ecosystem. Obviously there’s a lot of technology and all that connected to it and the basis there. But it’s really a growing ecosystem of projects.

We are a bunch of really nice and forthcoming people really happy to engage with everybody on a one-on-one basis, or if there’s really anything either you need some help on the technical side, or just want to be part of the community and reach out to us directly. We’ve got a very active Discord channel. We are more than happy to help!”
