Curious about BUIDLing at ETHDenver & ColoradoJam 2021 with Textile but wanting more details on their project? Get the scoop from their recent interview with ETHDenver:

What Is Textile?

“At Textile, we’re really focused on helping developers access and use decentralized protocols in the easiest ways possible. We really believe in the future of the internet being connected by these different protocols, and there being this sort of living fabric of applications and tools that developers and their users can move across and between.

We think that there’s still some work to be done to sort of connect the progress that we’ve made today with that sort of future vision. And so Textile is really focused on delivering sort of a package of tools that make it easy for developers to build on top of decentralized data, which has been our big focus, and use the protocols that are inside of IPFS and Filecoin, in order to store and move and share data. And we also work on a hosted platform, a hosted platform that allows developers to access things like IPFS and Filecoin, without having to start by setting up their own nodes and running daemons and figuring out how to connect those to the network and build them into their app. We really just give them that easy way to transition into using the protocols, but always having that way that they can move outside of the platform and build apps that are fully decentralized down the road, but have this really nice starting point where they can get their hands dirty, and start building their app, which we think is really valuable in environments like hackathons.”

What Else Should BUIDLers Know?

“You know, we had a few years, a few years there, where you know, if you weren’t fully decentralized, you kind of got a little shade. There were a few years there, where you know, everybody’s still storing everything on AWS, I think now we’re seeing that people are just focused a lot more on, ‘What is the right tool for this situation? How can I build this so that I can validate the idea in the first place?’ And then, you know what, ‘What sorts of new experiences can I then start building when I don’t have to think as much about my technology stack.’ So you know, maybe that’s the most important thing that I think we’re seeing this year is, there’s a lot less time spent on ‘What technology stack do I need to implement in order to test my idea,’ and now it’s just like, ‘Okay, I’m going to use buckets. For this, I’m gonna use threads. For this, I’m going to use, you know, 3Box or Infinite Scroll to manage my identity. And I’m going to build this thing, this idea that I have.’”

How to Use Textile

“We have a decentralized database called Threads dB, that runs over the protocols inside of IPFS. We have object storage called Buckets, which allow you to push and push and pull and synchronize folders of files over IPFS. And we have a technology called the Textile Hub, which allows you to get access to remote instances of both of those for relay persistence. And then we have a decentralized stack called the Power Gate, which is really for teams building new platforms that they want to connect and map to storage on Filecoin. So it does a lot of wallet management and account resource management and deal queue, task pipeline type ideas for moving data to the final point, and then getting that data back out. That’s just an example of some of the sort of broad set of tools that we offer. But really, if teams are trying to store and interact with data, we have a lot of different solutions for them.

For ETHDenver, we’ll be giving away some access codes so that developers get free access to help resources and storage and things like that for their hacks so that they don’t have to even worry about, you know, ‘Is this going to cost me money?’ We just want them to focus on building something amazing. And, you know, we’re trying to remove as many barriers as possible so that people can just dig in and start playing around and building things!
