Ethereum Cat Herders Update #4

Welcome back for a quick overview of the previous week in Ethereum Cat Herders. Starting with a few success stories.

Constantinople 2.0 (Constantinople / St. Petersburg) Upgrade

Constantinople upgrade is successfully done, no issue reported so far. Thanks to the entire ECH team for coordination with miners, wallets, core devs, and other involved parties. This is our first big success since the formation of the group. Cheers!

Further Introduction

• Further Introduction: The Ethereum Cat Herders
  A medium post by Brett Robertson, that will help understand Who, Why, What of the Ethereum Cat Herders. We will continue documenting as we go.
• Introducing the Ethereum Cat Herders
  A presentation was made on the introduction of ECH and our current initiatives at the Ethereum Developers Meetup. Thanks (Charles St.Louis).
• Presentation in EthCC, Paris
  Cat Herders will be in Paris this week, don’t miss the opportunity to meet some of the team and learn more about us!

Governance

• Aragon DAO for the ECH
  We have an Aragon DAO for the Ethereum Cat Herders on mainnet. (Thanks Chris Hobcroft, for setting it up)
• ETH Cat Herders Accounting
  You can now look into ETH Cat Herders / PM multisig accounting. Full accounting is here. Completely transparent. (Thanks @lrettig).

ProgPoW

ProgPOW was discussed with the core devs last Friday. Here are the updates (thanks to Hudson):

• Cat Herders will publish a more official blog post on ProgPOW which will provide details on it.
• 55 % voter turn out miner signaling in favor of ProgPOW, which is very high. There is a page on EtherChain. There is also a coinvote and they are also overwhelmingly YES.
• There are two main components to be covered for the audit of ProgPOW:
  a) Benchmarking to see if by running graphics card on NVIDIA and AMD, if either one of them is performing better in an unfair way. Whiteblock has a bounty out right now to perform that work.
  b) To see how long it would take an ASIC company to actually build a ProgPOW ASIC? So, we can see if it is even worth to implement.
• Funding for the @whiteblock ProgPoW benchmarking and testing effort is live.
• There is an interested party who sent a proposal for the second part of the audit on how long it would take to build the ASIC.
• Another article on ProgPOW — “WHAT’S UP WITH PROGPOW? BENCHMARKS & ADDRESSING THE CRITICISMS”.
