What is Ethernode?

We’re building infrastructure software and hardware to transform the way people connect to and interact with Ethereum blockchains. The EtherNode is a robust piece of hardware designed to not only host nodes but also serve as the base of a secure smart home network. It’s an easy plug and play way to reduce dependencies on 3rd party node hosts made possible by EnOS, the Linux based blockchain OS we’ve assembled.

Aaron Lowry

How did you come up with the idea for Ethernode?

We approached blockchain with an IoT use case in 2017 and determined that while there was tremendous potential in the technology, the infrastructure and network features were incapable of supporting a production viable product at scale, so we did some evaluating and started pitching in where we perceived a need.

There is an increasing imperative to develop networks and ecosystems to allow users to own and secure their data.

Tell us about your team and their experience

We’re a small team, three total right now. Co-founders Aaron Lowry and Maciej Nowosielski have worked together for 7 years founding and building a geotelematics enterprise and consumer vehicle tracking and IoT company. From software, hardware, and system engineering to product development, design, and marketing we wear a few hats. We recently added Nick Noriega to the team and we’re very excited to have him onboard with his experience in network security.

What does owning your node mean?

The value of personal data has grown exponentially over the past decade and people are slowly becoming more cognizant of how much they produce and how valuable it can be. There is an increasing imperative to develop networks and ecosystems to allow users to own and secure their data. EnOS is an environment where developers can build dApps using the api that can be run by users in a truly decentralized manner using the user’s own node for blockchain interactions locally.

Lets talk tech. What stands out as impressive with what you are doing?

The EtherNode hardware is really slick and we’ve taken great pains to bring a high quality and high value product to market, but the real magic is EnOS. We start with the Linux 5 kernel and built a JSON-RPC api using OpenRPC spec delivered via http2 to a flexible UI. It has a node manager that allows you to host and configure nodes with the click of a button in local docker containers. It has a fully documented SDK with a Solidity IDE for easy write/compile/sign/deploy through a single interface and your local node.

What is Ethernode’s competitive advantage?

Value. For developers, for the users, for us. EnOS will be open source and freely distributed. It runs on ARM or x86 on an SBC (light edge device versions upcoming), EVM, or your old laptop. We’re beginning development of an enterprise IoT platform that runs on EnOS as well as a few retail products, but we had to build EnOS first.

Why Ethereum Classic?

Decentralization, immutability, censorship resistance. We believe it’s ideally suited to be the protocol for a decentralized encrypted public network.

What is the next big milestone coming up?

We’re wrapping up a few design details on the EtherNode with plans to launch a pre-sale in April with delivery beginning in May. Although we haven’t talked about it we’re also going live with our EnConnect cloud hosted node services for developers and enterprise applications required a geographically distributed load balanced node network. Busy times!
