Have you heard?
Samsung is entering the blockchain space! Samsung just filed a patent for a blockchain-enabled Solid State Drive (SSD).

What does that mean?
It means that Samsung is making SSD programmable with blockchain. Theoretically, this means improved storage speeds and longer lifespans for storage devices. Ultimately, it’s designed to enhance transfer speeds while maintaining high security.

It also showcases how many companies are supporting blockchain as we launch our latest Cohort with seven startups.

Weekly Rewind

ETC Labs is back with another cohort! August 19th marked the kickoff for the second batch of applicants going through the program. Seven teams were selected to participate in a 3-month journey to help accelerate their startups.

Monday
Teams joined us for the first time at ETC Labs on Monday, August 19. Each of the teams was on-boarded into the program and given their keys to the building. Each startup introduced their projects in 5-minute presentations.

Tuesday
Business Model Canvas (BMC) and Ethereum Classic On-boarding were the focus of the second day. Liz Kukka created a step-by-step of how to use the BMC and how it’s divided into three segments: Value Created, Value Delivered, Value Captured. Zane Starr introduced ETC tooling, repos, Discord, and how to start building on ETC.

Wednesday
Fred Madrid, Co-Founder at NouGit, gave us an overview of the user research process, from developing interview questions, to “how” you ask questions, recording and tagging information, and developing a user research plan. Tom Lombardi, from Wave Financial, covered best-practices for trying to manage accounting, HR, and other aspects of operations while trying to do everything else at the same time. ETC Labs hosted a Launch Event Party for the 2nd Cohort. The startups got to meet the mentors and the SF blockchain Community.

Thursday
On Thursday we had Colin Fowler and Brian Coleman, from Perkins Coie.
Their topic was about Protecting Your IP & Pitfalls for Early Stage Startups. Liz Kukka designed a Value Proposition exercise to help the teams reflect on their startup’s product or service.

Save the Date! — September 18th & 19th
