If conflicts arise…

Journalistic integrity is important. We believe that here at “Basketball Unfiltered,” our writers and contributors are to uphold journalistic standards when it comes to dealing with conflicts of interest; “Conflicts of interest can take many forms for journalists, including financial, personal and political conflicts.

Accepting a financial benefit or gift from a source or subject can undermine a journalist’s credibility. Credibility also can be damaged when journalists have personal relationships with sources or subjects. Political advocacy by a journalist can call the journalist’s independence and accuracy into question.” We pride ourselves on delivering the best news we can and we strive not to jeopardize that through issues that may arise.

“Relationships with Sources”

Romantic association with sources is not tolerated, due to the risk of partiality and favoritism. Our writers and contributors are also prohibited from involving themselves in relationships with their coworkers. Such romantic involvement can lead to a convoluted work balance and will not be accepted in the workplace.

“Accepting hospitality and monetary gifts”

We do not allow or encourage our staff to accept monetary gifts or hospitality from our sources. We believe in maintaining an ethical standard which can be compromised once outside donations, whether monetary or not are involved.

“Participation in Public Life”

We encourage our staff to participate in rallies, protests, voting, and other basic forms of their rights as citizens; however, we ask that staff not post their political affiliations publicly and/or on social media.

We ask the staff to adhere to these rules. If broken, suspension or termination will follow.
