With more than 40 franchises throughout the Mexican state and 20 more being planned for 2019, it is one of the coffee shop chains growing at a fast pace compared with those already established ones such as Starbucks or Tim Hortons. La Borra serves in all of Mexico more than 200,000 customers every month.

“We have several openings planned in Bajío (region of Central Mexico) in cities like León and Querétaro. We hope to open seven branches only in this region by the end of the year and close 2019 with 60 units in total. For now we have 40 coffee shops in operation. El Bajío is very attractive for franchises, as it is one of the areas that is showing the most growth”said León Reffreger, CEO of La Borra del Café

During this year we have come to hear great advances in the La Borra del Café franchise network, two of them that stand out from the rest in 2019:

1- Borractive, a Blockchain project. Which will accept payment from customers with cryptocurrencies in their franchises and improve their internal processes with blockchain technology in order to have better control of them.

2- The contract signed with Crowdlending platform EthicHub. In which both parties have committed to favor the development of Mexican farmers with the purchase of coffee by La Borra.

At EthicHub we have intended for some time to sign alliances with different companies that needed large amounts of coffee annually for their businesses. After several meetings with La Borra del Café, an agreement was reached for the annual purchase of 18 tons.

This type of alliance called “contract farming” is planned to be the first one in which a large company such as La Borra gets a guarantee for receiving its coffee beans for their franchise customers. All this is made possible due to the work of EthicHub, that allows the farmers to get better financing conditions and at the same time gain a greater margin with the sale of their harvest.

For now, the duration of this contract will be one year but the agreement already establishes the extension as we reach the following ones. The objective is to provide La Borra with an organic coffee bean, produced by the farmers in their country. Thanks to the intermediation of EthicHub the lives of these farmers improve by being more profitable and have more funds to invest in their agricultural productions.

So, how will the regular customers of La Borra know about this new alliance?

Well, they plan to create a model of coffee cups that will be available in all their coffee shops and that allows the customer to recognize that this coffee was bought from farmers in their country. It will be announced in Mexican media and labelswill also be given so that users can wear them and support this alliance.

From September 2019, EthicHub will open new communities in order to obtain the 18 tons, signed with La Borra del Café. We will also continue to have on the investment platform communities who already received loans and add new ones so you will be able to continue investing in projects on a regular basis.

With this initiative we have started a great path to continue creating social impact for Mexican farmers. Thanks to La Borra for signing this alliance. Soon their customers will enjoy one of the best coffee beans.
