EthSign is an e-signing platform that utilizes blockchain & Web 3 technology to offer a decentralized, customizable and transparent version of a traditional signature service. We are officially announcing our integration of Torus to allow users to login to EthSign using their email and social media accounts! This is an integral part of increasing EthSign’s accessibility for Web 2 users.

Why Torus?

Torus is an identity mapping key management infrastructure specifically used for Web 2 user access into decentralized ecosystems. The infrastructure generates and links public-private key pairs for users through their social media handles including: email, Google, Facebook, Twitter, Discord, Line, Reddit, Apple ID, GitHub, Twitch, LinkedIn, WeChat, and KaKaoTalk.

Torus manages these private keys to provide decentralized application (dApp) authentication via OAuth API Open Authorization Protocol — the standard authentication protocol used to grant information to websites without the need for seed phrases or sharing passwords eg. “Login with Google”.

Video explainer on how Torus Key Infrastructure works

Torus has modified the OAuth standard to make logins completely decentralized and trustless; using Shamir Secret Sharing, user keys are split and stored on a network of nodes run by ecosystem stakeholders. Upon successful authentication, the key shares are reconstructed in the user’s client for use and wiped from the memory upon logging out. This keeps the keys custodial only to the user.

Other Torus features include Torus wallet, account recovery, in-app fiat to cryptocurrency, ERC721 support via OpenSea API, a reverse name resolver that associates email addresses and social media handles to public addresses allowing users to send tokens and other digital assets directly to those accounts

Significance of Torus

Blockchain infrastructure is maturing at a rate that realizes the possibility for decentralized, Web 3 applications. Our goal is to take advantage of these blockchain innovations that make low-cost decentralized computing and storage possible, to create one of the first Web 3 applications that have a frictionless user experience comparable to Web 2 applications. To enable this goal, low user-friction for Web 2 users is of utmost importance. By providing an easy to integrate, decentralized version of the OAuth standard, Torus allows users to easily manage their decentralized identities and login to dApps in the same way that they login to Web 2.

About Torus

Torus is making digital ownership and identity human-centric and accessible to everyone. Their mission is to remove technical barriers and reduce the learning curve for digital ownership and identity for all users. Provide simple and secure access to digital assets and identity across multiple platforms and applications. And, provide a user-friendly and non-custodial approach to managing assets and identity.

About EthSign

EthSign 3.0 provides the same functionality and UX as a Web 2.0 electronic agreement signing platform while leveraging the power of blockchains to enhance transparency and security. EthSign enables users to comment on, edit and access each version of an electronic agreement seamlessly and securely. As decentralization is one of our core tenets, EthSign 3.0 is completely serverless, meaning our website, ethsign.xyz, is statically hosted on IPFS + Arweave and runs entirely within the user’s browser. Feel free to try us out!

EthSign Smart Agreements (SA) truly realizes the vision for “smart contracts”. SA enables electronic agreements to have tighter binding properties by enforcing its execution using smart contracts in addition to or in place of existing legal enforcement. Powered by Chainlink Oracles and Keepers, one use case of EthSign SA is smart escrow triggered by on-chain and/or off-chain conditions.
