Octant Makes A Splash At ETHWarsaw With Public Goods Funding

ETHWarsaw is scheduled to run from August 30th to September 3rd. Do you have your tickets yet? Are you ready to make a splash with us?

Read on to learn more about our next sponsor.

As the Conference and Hackathon nears, the tides of ETHWarsaw are ready to take on our next Sea Sponsor, Octant. Making one of the biggest splashes over the last year as visionaries in our industry, Octant has been a beacon of light in the sea of innovation that is the web3 space. We are glad to have them as Sea Sponsors and look forward to watching them unleash their fins at this year’s Conference and Hackathon.

Octant, developed and funded by the Golem Foundation as a new, practical use-case for GLM (an ERC-20 token, native to the Golem Network), is a platform designed to test various hypotheses around user control, community engagement, and participatory public goods funding.

The platform offers a unique, community-driven approach to public goods funding, allowing you to influence how rewards from staking 100,000 ETH are allocated among qualified beneficiaries.

The Golem Foundation, upon becoming a validator, chose to entrust the staking rewards’ distribution to the Octant community. To be a part of this, simply time-lock a minimum of 100 GLM for a 90-day epoch in Octant. GLM is the ERC-20 token of the Golem ecosystem and is available across various marketplaces.

This non-custodial time-locking mechanism allows you to retrieve your tokens whenever you wish. By maintaining your GLM locked throughout an epoch, you can, at its conclusion, claim a portion of the staking reward for personal use or contribute it to deserving public goods initiatives from a community-curated roster. The amount of GLM you lock determines both your reward and your potential contributions. Even better, every contribution is augmented via Octant’s reward matching system, boosting its influence.

Throughout each 90-day epoch, the community can explore diverse governance techniques, polling strategies, and delegation models. The insights gained empower the Golem Foundation and researchers to refine and implement decentralized governance methods adaptable across various scenarios within and beyond the Web3 landscape. To understand more about the project and how it works, head on over to https://octant.build/.

A massive part of Octant is the community which is why we’re thrilled to connect with folks passionate about web3 at events.

At this year’s ETHWarsaw we’ll be waiting for you at our Octant booth. Come by and chat to Golem Foundation’s founders, including Julian Zawistowski, our comms team, and some of the very talented developers who are building the project. You can chat about public goods, find out more about Octant, or even inquire about the possibility of proposing your own project as a potential beneficiary for upcoming epochs.

You can also listen to Julian’s introduction to the core ideas of public goods funding in his talk titled What’s at Stake: ETH & Public Goods Funding and find out more about some more technical aspects of staking in Paweł “Pepesza” Peregud and Michał Chiliński’s talk Securing Solo Staking with Qubes OS.

We can’t wait to see fellow decentralization enthusiasts and engage in fascinating conversation. We’re stoked to bring our vision to ETHWarsaw and engage you all in building a solid community of people who support public goods. In the meantime, stay up to date with Octant by giving us a follow on Twitter and hopping into our Discord server. See you in Warsaw!
