Have you ever watched Maleficent with Agelina Jolie
Everybody knows Sleeping Beauty, the faitytale, and all the cinematic versions, the most acknowledged being Disney’s, with Maleficent as a dark fantasy spin off directed by Robert Stromberg.

Starting point: Maleficent’s tagline, used here to elicit some curiosity and interest to link it, as a metaphor, to my ‘dissemination’ experience withing the eTwinning universe: Evil has a beginning. Don’t believe the fairy tale. Maleficent, to me, gives a suitable metaphor to describe how, sometimes, ‘formal’ dissemination activities look like something, but they are not, they’re something else.

Let’s go quickly through Maleficent’s storyline, describing only the relevant sequences to evidence experiences of mine that will give, to those who know me better, all the feels: Claudia eTwinner, you are Maleficent!

Maleficent is a winged creature, rich in talents: beauty, wit, strength… she befriends a boy, they play and grow together. They are different, she’s the diverse one, but it doesn’t matter, they cherish their friendship and love.
Maleficent and Stefan grow up, he wants to be in charge, he wants to be king and, by stealth, after the first ‘true love kiss’, he shreds away Maleficent’s wings as a tribute to the king in charge, and, once became king himself, locks those precious wings in a glass cabinet into the tallest tower of his castle.
Wings are freedom to Maleficent, they are her most precious feature: it’s a blow, a betrayal. Maleficent feels desperate and changes for worst: at first she withers, then she entrenches. She’s secretly, still, the free and resourceful herself, but she’s harboring resentment and revenge; someone helps her, but she doesn’t care, because evil seems the only safeguard.
Married, the king is proud for the birth of his beautiful daughter, Aurora.
Maleficent asserts all the hatred and thirst for revenge she’s nursed, and curses the baby. The royals send Aurora far from the castle, into the wood, with a trio of wimpy and inattentive fairies.
Maleficent steps as Aurora’s imaginary friend, and, secretively, her guardian angel. But face to face Maleficent lavishes all her chill and sarcasm towards Aurora.
The princess meets her prince charming, maybe it’s true love.
Meanwhile Aurora is becoming 16, everybody at the castle waits for her, but the king knows better, he’s very alert against Maleficent.
Maleficent wants only have her wings back, that’s the best revenge, because she’s started to cherish her relationship to the girl.
But the curse becomes reality. War.
Prince charming kiss isn’t enough to wake Aurora up.
They’re ready to Live together.
Isn’t this a good metaphor?
Some sequences are the actual storytelling of my eTwinning experience!

In 2005 I’m Referente Istituzionale eTwinning (NSS at regional level), since 2006 I’m Referente Pedagogico (Pedagogical Adviser). I simply love eTwinning and I spread knowledge with all the feasible strategies known till then: innovation, active networking in Italy, Europe and in the Mediterranean; I imagine and build new action, innovation, collaboration guidelines.
Ambassadors start in 2009, in Abruzzo become Ambassadors Quality eTwinners, I’m effectively propagated! I do curate eTwinning with all my energies, but, you know, I’m an invisible homeless L’Aquila citizen, being my hometown devastated by the earthquake, it’s very tough disseminating eTwinning in an empty and desperate place…
In 2012 here comes a new wave in our eTwinning regional staff, and I’m not pedagogical advisor, nor ambassador, maybe, ‘only’ eTwinner, but a teacher without teaching place, too… I’m like Maleficent, without her wings, that are, still, in the king’s glass cabinet.
I simply love eTwinning and I’ll never surrender this identity of mine.

That’s why I am currently questioning my dissemination experience.
Moreover, I am asking: is there dissemination ‘without wings’, without being advisor or ambassador, eTwinning expert, or without your own class/school ready to kickstart eTwinning projects?
I should say, YES!
Just imagine how many eTwinning adventures I’ve been able to plot with winged eTwinners, unlike me, but with me ;)

Just think, for example, to the programme for the L’Aquila 2012 national Ambassadors meeting, in which I’ve done a short presence, without wings and as a guest in my hometown, but for which I’ve shared and devised organizational features and innovative content, silently and secretly.

Another example, with my Uni for which I curated, since 2010, countless eTwinning dissertations for the future special needs teachers in pre-primary and primary schools, become, since 2013 TTPilot Project, fostering at the innovation and internationalization of teachers’ continuous professional development.

Sleeping Beauty, Gran Sasso d’Italia’s nickname when seen from Silvi Marina (TE).

Disseminating means being eTwinner at heart, wanting and knowing how to communicate this commitment, even without participating to meetings and events, or, maybe, without tools…

One can disseminate (ideas, good practices, mission, vision,…) because one is able to communicate with other educational professionals, because one believes in effective teaching practices, that, when disclosed (narrated?) charms you, and by doing so, best practices arise, through imitation (learning by doing?), through emulation (project work?), through contamination (networking?), passion…

eTwinners spread beautiful teaching practice, inclusive school, real life tasks but not boring homework, integrated, digital, effective activities and strategies, to get the most from students’ neuroplasticity, that meet online, eTwinning, to discover and get to know the world around them, together, in order to show, tell, share that wonderful learning world wih distant, but close, friends, all this because eTwinner teachers have learned how to make, believe, innovate eTwinning.

Dissemination comes from artt. 3, 33, 34 of our Constitution enforcement, from being teacher and teacher educator for Children’s Rights, teacher and trainer for European Citizenship and informal and non formal skills, from working steadily and ceaselessly for the accomplishment of those ideals and rights, even outside ‘official representatives’…
eTwinning is mutual knowledge, sharing educational gifts, curiosity in discovery and wanderlust, voice given to the best projects, or to those that aren’t the best, but worth developing, like, for example, eTwinning L’Aquila, that allows me to be an eTwinner at heart, so much that I’ve been chosen to take part to the European eTwinning10 Conference in Brussels, but, you know, this is Cinderella, another fairy tale / metaphor!
