How to make up a perfect const-party in a MMORPG

Many MMORPGs encourage grouping into parties in different ways. In our MMORPGs up to 9 players can join a party and play together. This can be either PvP, or raids and farming. It’s fair to say that nowadays some MMOs do allow players to go through the game all on their own, but then what’s the point of playing a MMO anyway?

You can take people of different classes into your party and each player will have a different role. Most importantly, each player contributes a certain skill to help the entire team, thus making the challenge a lot easier and making a certain commitment to achieve the goal of the party. Personal qualities of the players as people are to be taken into consideration too. So how to assemble a dream team that will last forever?

Types of players

The minimum of players in the party is a duet of a tank (the tank will act as an attacker in this case) and a healer. However, there’s an endless variety of party builds. And it’s much better to have an attacker of some sort too. The tank faces potential threat, the healer makes sure that the tank doesn’t die. The attacker is taking the threat down. From that, you can add players from other classes depending on your goal up to the limit of the party.

Each party member needs to have a certain role, for instance, a tank is considered to be a perfect party leader and often tank becomes one. There is also an assist master: a player that decides whom to attack first. If the party plays together regularly (and is then called a const-party), there is usually a person in charge of the party’s economy: he/she manages the money and the drop, distributes the equipment and consumables.

Any player can join your party, but you’ll have to determine his/her role and make sure your party is efficient. Remember that the damage and your party’s ability to survive are the main aspects that you have to take into account.

Personal qualities

It’s important to remember that a const-party is, in general, a base for a clan and it’s going to remain intact for more than a couple of hours. This means that personal qualities and skills of the players might be even more important than their class. You will be spending quite a lot of time grinding and fighting enemies of all sorts together, so you should get along well too.

Players’ level

Many MMORPGs lower the amount of EXP and loot the party gets if the difference in the players’ lvl is big. Keep that in mind and recruit players not higher or lower than rational (in certain games the players with lower levels get 0% EXP if the difference is more than 14 levels, but overall it depends on the game you’re playing).

Player’s equipment

You might set a certain gear requirement so that the player that’s about to join you is as effective as you want him/her to be. However, then you need to have gear of the same level yourself. On the other hand, you might assemble a party and then gear up together.

Loot distribution

As for the loot, you can always agree on distributing it so that no one is left out, but the random distribution seems to be the most fair one, as the game itself decides who gets the loot randomly. In a const-party, you’ll most probably have a dedicated person who takes care of the loot distribution and overall economy.

Party’s communication

Create a chat (or a voice channel) in the preferred messenger and agree on the time when you go to play together. It might happen so that some members of the party are AFK more often than you’d like them to be, or miss the prime time and events, or simply lose their interest in playing. Though you should remember it’s just a game, you might just ask this player if he/she still wants to play with you. After all, you want to play and progress in the game, and as it’s said, for one that is missing there’s no spoiling a wedding. So, if this player slows your party down, you might as well look for someone to take his/her place. Just keep it all polite, it’s only a game.

After all, it’s most important that you enjoy playing with your teammates and that you achieve the goal set, be that winning a raid or grinding. Otherwise, what’s the point to play a MMO?

Wish you to assemble a dream team!
