15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.

In the time of the disciples, there were many people who had plans and ideas for who Jesus should be. But here in this encounter, God shows Peter who Jesus really is. And the result — He is called blessed!

Who Jesus Should Be

The same is true today, people have a lot of ideas for who Jesus should be. Social activist, moral judge, theological proposition, etc. It’s easy for us to get caught up in who we want Jesus to be…and miss who he revealed Himself to be.

The good news for us, of course, this special revelation of knowing Jesus isn’t just for Peter and other disciples. It’s for everyone who would come to know Jesus for who He is.

Are you trying to make God in your own image…or allowing God to show you who He is?
