A pocket of Peace in this Violent world!

If we look around our today, we see violence all around, on the TV, in the news and out there on the streets. It’s not just about our locality or city but across the world. We find nations in turmoil, unending wars and millions of people getting displaced.

In this context of violence all around it is only our faith in Christ that can provide peace. In 2 Chronicles 15 we find a similar context.

In those days it was not safe to travel about, for all the inhabitants of the lands were in great turmoil. One nation was being crushed by another and one city by another, because God was troubling them with every kind of distress. 2 Chronicles 15:5‭-‬6 NIV

In this context the Lord sends a message to King Asa through Obed that his kingdom will experience peace in this violent world.

But why, what’s so special about this kingdom?

If you remember that most kings in the divided kingdoms of Israel were morally corrupt, they left God and started worshipping other gods and involved in practices like human sacrifice and etc.

As a result of all this the people lost their point of reference, they were lost and the whole society went down. In today’s world as we continue to dump God as mere superstition, we are following the same road.

God is the one and only True point of reference in this Universe. Without him in our lives and in our society we are lost.

We claim to make progress and grow as civilised society but if we are really paying attention we are becoming more uncivilised as we have left our only point of reference. We are like a ship that knows no direction. It goes nowhere!

Our problems of hate, greed, lust and etc are only growing more and more. It is time for us to turn away from our ways. It is time to stand up and voice out our concern and lead by example.

This is exactly what King Asa had done, he turned away from the ways of his predecessors. He did away with all evil practices. He led his people to worship the True Lord.

All Judah rejoiced about the oath because they had sworn it wholeheartedly. They sought God eagerly, and he was found by them. So the Lord gave them rest on every side. 2 Chronicles 15:15 NIV

The Lord protects the kingdom from invasion and there is peace in the land. They are able to build their towns and they grow as a kingdom.

We have peace in God alone!

The world today seems to be fighting God, the world sees God as an enemy, as unwanted. This is where you and I have to rise up like King Asa and take initiative to point people back to God.

This will not be easy, it calls for some hard choices but then again enmity with God is something that no one can afford.

Let us therefore pray for our friends, neighbours, cities and nations.

Let us also be available to lead like King Asa by serving God.

Let us also love like Jesus and reflect this love to all around us.

Let us depend on the Holy Spirit and by his guidance and strength let us do all that he leads us to.

Let us not remain mute spectators while there is violence all around.

Let us not remain mere readers of blogs about bible let us be “doers” also.

God help us.
