Grandparents are known to pamper their grandchildren but today’s text that we find in 2 Kings 12 is very chilling.

Athaliah’s son — Ahaziah, king of Judah died. Now we would expect Athaliah to prepare the next king from among her grandchildren, wouldn’t we?

But no Athaliah planned to kill all her grandsons and she wanted to rule herself. Can you imagine a grandmother plotting to kill her own grandchildren, such is the bondage of sin.

Now Ahaziah was David’s descendent, at this point if all his sons were killed, the lineage of David would end there.

Remember God’s promise to David.

Here was an evil attempt to take lives and block the plan of God but who can stop the work started by God.

No one.

The Lord is faithful he defeats the evil design by protecting Joash, son of Ahaziah. His aunt hides him away in the temple for 6 years.

Later the priest reveals him to the people at the right time and he is made King of Judah.

The sinfulness of humankind can go to any extent to stop the promises of God, we see that all around us. In-fact we can see it in each of oyr lives as well. Yet the blessed assurance that we have is the our Lord is ever faithful and never leaves his promise unfulfilled.

What does that mean to you and me in your daily life? What do you think? Why dont you share about it?
