In this tale of two kings let us today look at a queen — Michal, King Saul’s daughter. In 1st Samuel we see that she is in love with David and she is married to him. She even saves his life once when Saul sends his men to get him.

In 2nd Samuel 6 we see David bringing the Ark back to the City and he does so with much rejoicing. He is there with the people dancing and praising God. David was a common man who was lifted up to be the King, he worshipped God shamelessly.

Michal on the other hand was raised as a princess, to her seeing David dancing around half naked in front of everybody was beyond the dignity of his position.

Sparks fly out when they meet, David explains his actions were not for the others to see but only for God. We can see a clear distinction in the priorities of this couple. The husband was concerned only with his worship while the wife here was concerned about the public image.

Many relationships in today’s world are no different. It all starts in love and everything is rosy but soon the different priorities start pulling and the tension often becomes too much. Love soon becomes strife.

Marriage is not a competition but rather an exercise in synergy.

The concluding statement about Michal says a lot without saying much, she is childless till the end. It does not mention why but the circumstances here suggest that their difference in priorities definitely played a role.

You and I have much to learn from here. Recognise what are priorities in your life. When you do consider someone who could be your life partner, it’s important to talk in much detail about your priorities. If you already are in a relationship, do take time to discuss it now before it surprises you.

Michal and David would not not have imagined that this is how they would end up, they too had the romantic visions i believe that is why it is important for you and I to really have the talk.
