When people think of the 80’s, a lot of times they think of big hair, bold make-up, or getting a drink of the new soda called Coca Cola (and for only a nickle!) But the 80’s had more to offer to people as big-name Pop Stars started to make their names known.

Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone, also known as the Queen of Pop, came from Bay City, Michigan, but got her start on a dance floor in a club in New York City. In the course of her career, Madonna would make 21 Top Ten Hits and sell 70 million copies of her music worldwide.

Madonna has been noted as one of the biggest feminists in the country. She’s always been for the power women have over themselves, their futures, and their bodies. But sometimes her feminism mixed in with her wild behavior.

One of her biggest hits was called “Justify My Love,” which in the music video, had an S&M theme to it. During an interview regarding the video, Madonna was asked if it was degrading towards women in which case she replied with, “But I chained myself! I’m in charge.”

Madonna has been involved with 29 charities and foundations, helping people in need. She’s helped almost every kind of organization there is, from veterans who need help to AIDS fundraising to children in hospitals.

Even though it’s no longer the 80’s and we no longer have big hair, bold make-up, and Coca Cola is way more the a nickle now, I think that one good thing from the 80’s that’s manged to stay with us was Madonna, an active feminist and a Queen of Pop.
