Six civil society organizations and media organizations will combat misinformation with the support of the European Union

With assistance from the European Union, six civil society organizations and media organizations will combat misinformation.

Each of the recipients of funds totaling 38,000 euros was Klumea, the ADEPT Association, Super Like, WatchDog.MD, and Comunitatea Plus.

The organizations will also monitor the effects of misinformation and manipulation on the public, present, and analyze false narratives that are circulating in the online environment, in addition to media literacy efforts through interactive quizzes and games, educational videos that will help young people tell the difference between fake and truth.

The six institutions and organizations were chosen as part of the European Union-funded project “Supporting the Independent Press and Informational Resilience in Moldova,” which was carried out by Internews Moldova.

Its goal is to give professional, independent media in Moldova the institutional support they need to survive and go on creating trustworthy, fact-based media.

The project also intends to improve the Audiovisual Council of Moldova’s technical capability to support the European Union’s counter-disinformation initiatives.

In order to improve the media monitoring process and better respond to the disinformation gaps that emerge through TV programs, Internews will upgrade this important regulatory institution of the information environment in Moldova with authorized programs and IT equipment.

The project is planned to be carried out from May 24, 2022, until November 23, 2023.

About the project “Supporting the Independent Press and Informational Resilience in Moldova”

The project supports independent professional media and develops citizens’ critical thinking by:

  • Emergency funding for about 20 media organizations in the Republic of Moldova to continue operating and generating trustworthy, fact-based media content. This assistance enables the media to meet the financial challenges brought on by the COVID-19 outbreak, Russia’s assault against Ukraine, and the nation’s ongoing economic crisis.
  • Grants awarded to 6 civil society organizations and the media to help improve citizens’ critical thinking and develop disinformation identification skills. Internews supports initiatives that will help Moldovans navigate the complex information environment and learn to distinguish facts from fakes. The project’s goal is to increase Moldova’s ability to fight false information by supporting local voices and independent media.
