The European Union Month of Culture (EUMC) is here! Throughout the entire month of May you’ll have the chance to experience the diverse cultures of the 28 EU Member States through film, dance, music, theatre, exhibits, language classes, workshops and more in great venues throughout Washington, D.C. — and most events are free!

  1. Janning Trumann Quartet | Germany

Kennedy Center | May 2, 6:00–7:00 PM

Desire a night of music at one of DC’s prime venues? Come to the Kennedy Center and watch the Janning Truman Quartet perform an hour of unique, contemporary jazz from Cologne, Germany.

2. Home Sweet Home | Slovenia

Corner Store Arts | May 2, 8:00–10:00 PM

Giving viewers a glimpse into the difficult realities of those who are part of the “system”, this documentary film shows one year in the lives of four children who grew up in socially unsuitable environments and now reside in a communal youth home.

3. Disco’s Influence on European Dance Music | Sweden

Library of Congress | May 3, 7:00–9:30 PM

Part of a larger series exploring the legacy of disco, music curator James Wintle will host a lecture and screening of ABBA: The Movie, exploring the impact the Swedish group had on EDM, hip-hop, pop dance — and more!

4. Creativity in Times of Crisis | Greece

This documentary explores the other side of the Greek economic crisis — the burst of artistic activity in Athens, demonstrating resilience and creativity in the face of financial hardship.

5. Swedish Arts Workshop | Sweden

Looking for some family fun? Come to Embassy of Sweden USA for a free, hands-on, kid-friendly workshop with Swedish artist and art teacher Karin Lithell.
