An open letter to non Americans
For all those people spreading hate and calling Americans dumb, let me tell you, it is just as useless as telling Barack Obama to come back or to tell Donald to call off the prank. While I am no Trump supporter whatsoever and wanted Hillary to win because she was comparatively better, I do realize that there is no point now in posting images and statuses saying “WHAT DID AMERICA DO?”
I don’t know whether Trump’s governance will bring out any positive results for America or not, but I do know that Americans are selfishly smart and that’s a good thing. They do not want foreigners coming to their country and taking away their jobs while they sit at home, jobless and broke, having a cheap beer.
#imwithher campaign was more by celebrities and known figures rather than the middle class Native Americans who wanted their employment rights. So let us try and respect their unheard opinion. I do see a point when the Americans supported the immigration laws put forward by Trump. They could relate with Trump as a country man in a way they could not with Hillary. I believe, in the past, people had focused more on the personality traits of the candidates than on actual policies put forward by them and framed their opinions based on them. If you really look into some of the policies put forward by Trump, you may realize that it may actually benefit the Americans. The proposed immigration law, for instance, may actually reduce the unemployment ratios of the Natives.
Just take a moment and think, would any of you like it if foreigners came into your country and took away your jobs? That being said, I am not justifying any of the misogyny and racism Trump spread during his campaign. But now when I look back, I do see all the controversial comments as mere publicity stunts Trump used as a tool to gain attention rather than any concrete promises to be fulfilled. After all, he did not have any prior experience in the White House to support his campaign, so he might have exaggerated his opinions- like conveying the idea of a fence as a wall. There were quite a few changes on stance observed after he was elected President. And I also think people should stop making it all about anti-feminism when it is clearly not. So, for once, stop thinking about all this like a foreigner or an NRI and step in the shoes of the natives because America is their country and if millions of people have decided something with their whole life spent in that country, they clearly know what they are doing more than you. It is time to accept the fact and stand strong and united because the markets are already falling, the economy shaking and things are changing. It is time to watch and see whether Trump is able to implement the bold ideas he suggested during the campaign, and if yes, does it bring progressive or destructive results? And what if he is unable to fulfill his promises? What if all the governance turns out to be too overwhelming for him and his team? What if he does not last even 2 years, let alone 8? He does not have any experience in governance after all. Whatever the outcome may be, it is time to stop whining with helplessness and sit and watch and support, because you don’t want the Americans to have second opinions when the moment has clearly passed and when they clearly cannot do anything about it, or would not want to after all.
