Ringing the Bell for Gender Equality
Today, in celebration of International Women’s day, Women in ETFs (WE), opened Euronext Dublin by taking part in a “Ring the Bell for Gender Equality” ceremony, for the third year in a row.
What is ‘Ring the Bell for Gender Equality’?
In celebration of International Women’s Day (8 March 2019), the Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative invites stock exchanges around the world to host a bell ringing ceremony to raise awareness of the role that the private sector can play in advancing gender equality to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 5.
Around the world, more than 75 exchanges took part in the event today, which is a partnership between Women in ETFs, IFC, Sustainable Stock Exchanges (SSE) Initiative, UN Global Compact, UN Women, and the World Federation of Exchanges.
Dublin’s history of gender equality
It’s always a pleasure to host special events on our historic trading floor, which dates back to 1878.
On the same trading floor, back in 1925, Oonagh Keogh was the first woman in the world to become a female member of a stock exchange. It was more than 40 years before another exchange accepted women into its membership — New York in 1967, followed by London in 1975.
Gender Balance at Euronext Dublin
We have always remained true to our heritage of equality and openness, and we can now proudly announce that by the end of March, Euronext Dublin will have equal gender participation in our workforce — achieving 50/50 gender balance throughout all levels of our organisation — from junior roles to management positions.
