After having a wonderful time in Munich for Jon and Simone’s wedding, and catching up with lots of friends, it was time to move back east. I decided to break up the journey to Czechia (the new-ish official name for the Czech Republic) by spending a night in Regensburg.

The Danube flowing through Regensburg

It’s an incredibly pretty town, full of pedestrianised cobbled streets and old buildings. It didn’t suffer much damage during the war, so most of the buildings are original. It has an old bridge across the Danube connecting the town to a couple of islands in the Danube. One, Stadtdamhof, used to be part of Bavaria while Regensburg was an independent city state. The bridge used to have guard towers stopping any crossings at night until the Napoleonic Wars when Stadtdamhof was incorporated into the city.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to explore as much as I would have liked, as it’s here that my heel started hurting and limited how much I could walk.
