Did you know…Laurence Corner was founded on Drummond Street?#EustonGreenLink

On the corner site of Drummond Street, now owned by Greenlight pharmacy, the famous Laurence Corner was founded…And we feel that this breadth of history on Drummond Street needs to be brought to life and celebrated!

The Beatles found their Sgt. Pepper jackets there, Kate Moss and Boy George shopped there and Jean-Paul Gaultier, Vivienne Westwood and Katherine Hamnett found inspiration for their designs there.

For more than 50 years Laurence Corner dressed the worlds of fashion and film — not forgetting armies of students — in its trademark brand of military surplus chic.

The shop also provided costumes and props for films such as Indiana Jones and Star Wars, and the TV satire puppet Spitting Image, as well as setting a trend for military gear that has become a familiar sight from the high street to the catwalk. Apparently, fans are still swarming to the area to visit the site itself.

When the world-famous military and fancy dress shop, Laurence Corner in Euston, London, was forced to close in 2007, its Green Light Pharmacy neighbour seized the opportunity to implement a new kind of pharmacy.

Green Light’s superintendent pharmacist Sanjay Ganvir and founders John Foreman and Tim O’Donoghue saw the available space as somewhere they could actualise a new model for their company — one that all future Green Light Pharmacies will be based on — community.

The pharmacy runs on the principle of community and patient-centred healthcare. They aim to continue Laurence Corner’s legacy as a cornerstone and asset to the local community.

The original Laurence Corner’s fighting spirit has also returned to the borough, at a new shop in Camden Lock’s East Yard.
