Friday evening, a cup of coffee and several rounds of anecdotes. The Eventjini office invited Ramji Srinivasan, former strength and conditioning coach for the Indian Cricket Team as our guest for TGFC (Thank God For Coffee Evenings). Over the next few hours, Coach Ramji gave us a fascinating insight into his life and the world of cricket.

Eventjini Meetup with Ramji — Former Indian Cricket Team S&T Coach

Coach Ramji took on an active life from a young age as a sprinter and long jumper. His training stopped mid-way after he tore his hamstrings in an unfortunate incident. This meant a shift of focus from sports to academics. This incident slowed him down but didn’t stop him from pursuing a career in sports. He made a bold move after his graduation in 1993, when he went on to open a small gym in Royapettah, Chennai, called Prime Fit Gym. Soon after, in 1997, he joined the MRF Pace Foundation, where he learned everything sports and fitness related. This motivated him to shift from general fitness to sports fitness.
Completing a course in Strength and Condition opened doors for newer opportunities. Over the following years, he trained the Indian Cricket Team multiple times, worked with the National Cricket Academy and team Mumbai Indians. As an S&C coach for the Indian cricket team, Ramji inducted a well-rounded routine for cricketers that included yoga, stretching, water sports, and focused massages. With one of the highest success rates, he has single-handedly lifted Tamil Nadus sports quotient, especially after opening the Quantum Leap Sports Performance Center (now Sports Dynamix) in Chennai. This marked a milestone in comparison to his first gym in 93' showing how far he had come in life.
As he opened up about his life as a prominent coach for team India, the office listened eagerly to the stories of their superheroes. Curiosity filled the room and gave bases to an interesting Q and A session with the coach. Topics like the future of sports in India to Sachin Tendulkar’s favorite dish, no question seemed too frivolous for him to answer.
