Event Discovery Still Sucks
I have been attending business events for various reasons for over 3 years now. Many a times I’ve missed some interesting events happening in my country. Many a times, I come to know only a week earlier, but by that time, I normally have other plans. Here, I just want to talk about the event discover problem from an attendee’s point of view.
How do I get to know about about future events? From my facebook feeds, twitter feeds, and an occasional forwarded email from someone in my network . I don’t pay attention to banner ads.
Why do I rely mostly on my social media feeds? Probably, because I hope that pages I follow or people in my network will share a future event. But guess what, it doesn’t always happen. They might have shared an event via one of the social media, but I am definitely not scrolling down my facebook & twitter feeds every hour.
But, why do I not have an app installed on my mobile or why do I not track business events on existing popular web platforms? First, as a normal user, my tendency to open an installed app is way higher than to open a web portal periodically. These portals suck on mobile, they are trying to catchup now. Further, these portals rely on event organizers for their event supply — that means, if an event organizer hasn’t put its event, the event will not exist on these portals. Thats a great dependency, and a key reason on missing out on some important events. Note that my definition of important event is not the well known glamorous events.
So, what did I do? I created EventzIO. I was looking for a simple app that can help me discover business conferences of my interest in my country or in my city, without any fancy show. An app that simply tells me the key details — Schedule, Venue, Speakers, Agenda, Fee, other Attendees. So, with my team, I built a simple app that can just tell me key details and help me not to miss any interesting business conference. The app will be available in the app stores in a few days.
