01 Work as a team
Product, design and engineers need to own the problem space together through the build. Forget about delivering on a list of features and start answering together “How can we deliver this value / solve this problem?”
02 Learning Mindset
Don’t design big and then work backwards. Work together to define a vision as the north start but get used to working one step at a time to get there, and keep your mindset open to correct the route or update that north star as you progress. Design with the learnings you want to achieve in mind
Remember: the problem you’re facing is not about what car you build, is about finding the best way to move through the city ;)
03 Continuous discovery
Incorporate as early as possible and often feedback from real and potential customers
We work with a design sprint structure every sprint of the build.
- Product kick-off — where the team comes together to where what they know about the sprint's problem and co-create “ How can we deliver this value / solve this problem?”
- Product check-in — where the team comes together before testing with customers to check in on what are they going to test and what they want to learn
- Learning from customers — every sprint there is some time slot to test and learn from customers. We test the current sprint but also take the opportunity to research and learn things that will inform the sprint in the future. Tools like remote testing make it easier and having our customer
- Final iteration —share and incorporate the learning for the testing. Bring the research learnings to the next design kick-off.
04 Embrace Ambiguity
Accept you don’t know the final output and get used to being flexible as a team. Is like building the bridge at the same time that you’re crossing the bridge: a bit tricky but worth the fun!
