Hello everyone,

Today is International Women’s Day, and this year’s theme is DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality. As a tech business, this presents a great opportunity for us to reflect on how we are addressing gender equity & allyship, both externally and internally.

The tech industry is predominantly male, and women across the world face a range of systemic challenges, from recruitment and job opportunities to workplace relations and career development. At Everest, we recognise that these issues are prevalent across the industry and around the world, and we are committed to being inclusive and equitable.

We care about our employees, and regardless of how well we might perform on gender equity relative to the industry, we want to do more to promote equality and fairness within our organization.

Today, I want to share four new things we can start doing together for the future to promote gender equity at and around Everest:

  1. Share your stories: I encourage as many of you as possible to share your stories of equity for women at Everest in Slack, either in replies to this post or wherever you think will make the most impact. By sharing our experiences, we can create a more supportive and inclusive workplace culture.
  2. Be an ally: It’s not easy, but it’s probably the most important thing we can all do for each other. A workplace where everyone can feel safe, included and valued is a joyful workplace Talk to each other about it and show up — together we’ll continue to evolve and grow a culture we’re proud of.
  3. Measure our performance: In the months ahead, we will develop a dashboard to measure our gender equity performance. We will consult with staff and external experts to determine appropriate performance indicators, and set up ways of measuring our progress. Later this year, we will start reporting back to everyone (hopefully twice a year) on our progress and the actions we are taking to improve.
  4. Be ambassadors for change: Starting now, and extending into the years ahead, I invite the women of Everest and their allies, to be ambassadors for change and inspire younger generations. I encourage you to go out to schools and other groups and share your experiences about the great things that can be achieved in a career in tech. By inspiring girls and young women, we can help address the gender gap in the industry.

Thank you all for your attention and commitment to gender equality. Let’s continue to work together to make Everest a more inclusive and equitable workplace for everyone. Happy International Women’s Day!

Now, let’s see your stories.
