It is crystal clear that “business as usual” must end. Green economies are a crucial tool for achieving what sustainable development ultimately seeks to do: improve human well-being while protecting the environment. Green economies on their own are insufficient. A solution that tackles the social, economic, and environmental problems facing the globe today in an integrated and comprehensive manner, with new indicators to guide us, is required given the complex and varied challenges and threats of today and the future. It urges the creation of green societies, which must be inclusive and fair. They must encourage the development of original and imaginative responses to the world’s current concerns. No society can afford to marginalize anyone. The requirements of Africa require special consideration. The empowerment of women, youth, and indigenous people must also be prioritized in order to ensure their inclusion in decision-making processes and their significant contribution to attaining sustainable development. Below there is a graph of which G20 countries have public support for more green initiatives.

Companies in the green and climate technology sectors are quickly changing the market environment. In order to stay competitive, incumbents must change fast now that sustainability is a commercial need.

Around 73% of respondents from the United Kingdom expressed stronger support for more investments in green firms and jobs, according to the findings of a worldwide study conducted in 2020. India had the least amount of popular support out of the G20 nations questioned.

Real cases from companies (Green Economy -> Green Society) sources

Having a green business includes some or all aspects of the business that are based on eco-friendly principles such as sourcing of raw materials and the supply chain, manufacturing process, packaging, and post-consumer responsibility.

Being aware of the green economy will eventually lead to many advantages, from bottom-line cost savings to unfathomed marketing opportunities. Green companies reduce waste and decrease costs while being able to apply for eco-friendly incentives and rebates. they often promote a healthier work environment and attract eco-conscious customers.

Companies are going green in more than one way. The two biggest initiatives are reducing energy, which also includes switching to renewable, and reducing waste at the office and production lines. According to McKinsey & Company, 63% of companies are reducing energy consumption and 61% of them are reducing waste.

Let’s take a look on companies that put green society into real application in their products and services!

Honda

As the largest manufacturer of engines in the world, Honda is focusing on sustainable future and is making big moves in the environmental activities to support their goal in achieving 100% carbon neutrality across all products and corporate activities by 2050.

Alike other vehicle brands who build their own version of electric vehicles, Honda strives to strengthen the development of electric vehicle in addition to fuel cell vehicles. Taking the Honda e as an example, it is engineered to deliver an exceptional, all-electric driving experience with zero emissions.

Here’s what Honda strategized and prepared in achieving their environmental goals through the Honda e.

  1. Electric Technology

The advanced electric drivetrain employs proven Honda electrification technologies with fast-charge capability to meet the demands of everyday commuting.

2. Zero Emissions

Combines emission-free driving with exciting performance such as sporty, powerful, and extremely agile

3. Fast Charging

High-capacity 35.5 kWh battery adds 80% of charge in just 31 minutes of rapid charging*.

4. Range and Speed

Max range capacity of up to 137 miles (WLTP) and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 8.3 seconds.

Aside from their product, Honda’s commitment to extend well beyond fuel-efficient vehicles and products for the environment is also one of the reason of why Green Dealer program is here. A program in which hundreds of authorized Honda and Acura dealers and distributors across the U.S. assist in reducing numerous environmental footprint. While at the same time, this program is focusing on offering dealers a comprehensive roadmap in increasing energy efficiency while reducing their environmental footprint.

All in all, business as usual will not help us achieve the UN’s 2030 goals as there is a limited amount of time left for the world to accomplish its net-zero sustainability ambitions. The urgency for startups to focus or at least have a green economy in mind when they want to adapt to the world’s needs is becoming more notorious and it must be seen as a priority more than as an opportunity now more than ever.
