Bill and Melinda Gates: Their Big Bet For the Future

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation are optimistic that the lives of people in developing countries will not only improve faster in the next 15 years than other time in history, but that their lives will improve more than anyone else’s. As discussed in the 2015 Annual Letter, released today, they anticipate that with global commitments, recent technological innovations, and research and development, we’ll see the below breakthroughs by 2030:
- Reduce the number of women who die in childbirth by two-thirds
- Reduce child deaths by 50%
- Eradicate more diseases than ever before, including wiping polio and three others off the face of the earth, and eradicating malaria
- Improve farming methods so that Africa can alleviate challenges of hunger and nutrition
- Reduce cases of HIV by having the number of people beginning treatment in sub-Saharan Africa outstrip the number of people newly infected
- Mobile banking will begin to transform the lives of people in developing countries
- Better software will revolutionize learning and education
