As you know, the NYC marathon was cancelled and the majority of Team-EMC is in NYC, dedicating the time we’d be running to volunteer.Beth Tritter and I- the lone 2 DC based team members had not yet boarded our Amtrak when the news came in. So instead, we plan to run it anyways with our very own “EMC Takes DC Marathon.”

Now as you runners know, it’s a heck of a lot easier to run 26.2 miles when you have people cheering you on, water breaks every mile and whatnot. We clearly aren’t going for the NY experience but a few of you have been kind enough to offer to support us so we wanted to get back with the plan.

Here is the route. We are going to start at the Lincoln Memorial at 730am (Beth assures me that daylight savings will make that not feel TOO early). We’ll make our way around the mall up to the Capitol, then around Hains Point, over Memorial Bridge, up to Key Bridge then wind our way up the Toepath along Canal Road. We’ll climb out in the Palisades and basically go up town on Arizona then Nebraska til we hit Rock Creek Park. We’ll go up Oregon and into the park before turning for the final 3 miles down Beach Drive. We’ll finish in the Park by Pierce Mill at the corner of Beach Drive and Tilden.

We’d love to have folks join us and there are 3 ways you can do that!

1. The map of our route is attached. You can start downtown with us at 730 or jump in along the way and run however long you’d like! We are NOT going for any records so are happy to adapt to others’ times. We are currently estimating 10:30 miles — somewhere in there so if you want to join us take a mile marker on the map where you want to join, multiply by 11 to be safe and add it to 730am.

2. We could also use some adoring fans (with water bottles) so if anyone would like to sign up to be somewhere along the route with water, we’d greatly appreciate that too! Let us know what’s convenient! (We will force our husbands to fill in the other blanks J)

3. Then we would love to celebrate the big finish with anyone who cares to join at Pierce Mills in Rock Creek Park. This isn’t scientific but we’re thinking we’ll be pulling in there around 12 or 1215. Bring yourselves, some advil, whatever.

And just because we are total multitaskers, we will try to tweet our progress along the way every now and again so you know how we’re doing so follow us @ETThornton or @btritter if you want to check in.
