Tomorrow morning, a group of EMC staff, board members, friends and family are traveling to Haiti. Our main reason for going is to celebrate the graduation of our first class of midwifery students with Midwives for Haiti. We’re so proud of these students and confident that the skills they’ve learned this past year will truly change lives. They’ve certainly changed ours. That’s why we want to be there for their big day — to send them off to their new careers with all our support. We hope we’ll stay in touch and hear stories of the healthy mothers and babies they’ve delivered for years to come.

For some of our travelers, this is a first visit to a developing country and this trip serves to deepen their understanding about the maternal health conditions women face in the world. For others, it’s a return to a country they know well and are committed to serving. Whether this trip is a new experience or a familiar one, it’s sure to offer each of us a new perspective from which to learn, share and grow as we continue our work to improve lives for women around the world.

As we visit homes, hospitals, clinics and orphanages in a country that’s steeped in beauty and struggling with reconstruction, we’ll do our best to let you travel with us. Stay tuned for blogs from the field and thanks for your ongoing support.
