Participate: Project

Should I get Involved?
Participation doesn’t require a great deal of explanation. Simply, there are times you need to or are compelled to vote with your feet and get actively involved.
Taking on someone else’s karma as a project is a common thing to do, we want to help, we want to be important, we want justice, we want control, etc. It is another thing to do it consciously.
The thought being, I am going to use my skills and my experience to help you with this karma.
Projects may be small or large, but they have a definable end.
I find it curious that when you are meant to learn something opportunities seem to come in waves. At one point I was ‘just being there’ for 11 different people who either had cancer or a loved one had cancer. I would just check in with them or they would call once a week or so. Eventually they all were done with treatment or had died.
There was nothing formal about this, it just kind of came up and I didn’t decline it, so it became a project. I learned a lot about listening and not trying to fix during this time. As I said before, it is not always clear who this karmic activity is for. Obviously, if it comes to you, you own a piece of it.
Imagine for a moment being the karmic arranger; it is much more efficient to kill two birds or even a flock with each stone.
These days the projects I take on are helping people make transitions in life. Whether it is to rebuild or exit a career or just get a fresh start in life, they all have a few things in common. First, the goals or challenge is clear, secondly, they understand they need support and lastly, it is relatively short term.
It is fairly obvious now, but in the past I can see where I failed to distinguish between growth opportunities and projects where they were only trying to keep their ego intact. Basically, they were saying help me keep my false narrative going, without it I don’t know who I am. Foolishly, I thought I would get them to see more deeply along the way.
Having been in the path / practice (and life is practice) process for a while, I no longer think it is a bad thing to fully engage life’s challenges rather than fix them as fast as possible and put them behind you. My current belief is that if you do not address them fully you will get the opportunity to do so again.
With that said however, this does not mean you cannot support them through any transition, just be mindful of whether you are helping them grow or in the ego patching business. Be kind and be of service to others, even if you do not always feel like you got it right. You did.
