Missoula Public Library has an exciting new program concept, adaptive cooking demonstrations. The demos are facilitated by MonTECH, Montana’s statewide Assistive Technology (AT) program, which works to ensure all Montanans with disabilities have access to the equipment and devices they need to support their independence.

Missoula chef Wisam Raheem and the MonTECH staff will show participants how to incorporate AT into meal prep while learning to cook some classic Arabic recipes. AT can assist individuals with strength and mobility challenges, low vision, tremors, and more, and can help make the joy of cooking accessible to everyone.

For this event, Missoula Public Library’s partnership with MonTECH is only possible with MPL’s demonstration kitchen. This space is utilized by food professionals recruited by the library’s Programming Committee to present a variety of offerings to the public.

Missoula Public Library isn’t alone in providing its greater community with intrinsic public spaces. Libraries across the country play an irreplaceable role in creating spaces that support partnerships and make necessary programming widely accessible. Libraries are America’s safe space, from art and music programs to cooking demonstrations and vocational training.
