Public libraries are community hubs. They offer a safe place to connect and access quality reading, media, and research material. In addition to providing books and media materials, libraries serve communities through classes, programs, and business centers.

What is a Library Business Center?

A public library business center is a dedicated space within a public library where community members can access business resources. These resources may include but are not limited to personalized market and consumer data, meeting rooms, and free access to game-changing resources and tools. Usually, a business resource center will have an assigned business librarian to help with business-related questions.

Where are Library Business Centers Located?

A library business service center or access to business resources is likely housed within your public library. Most library business centers have partners in the local community. A new national initiative called Libraries Build Business (LBB) was established in 2020 by the American Library Association with support from Google.com. The LBB initiative aims to expand business services and resources.

How to Use a Business Center

Call your library and speak to a librarian to learn about how you can get started. Not all library business services require a library card. However, one may be required to access some reference materials.

Each library business center operates independently, and each business center has different requirements. For example, Elmhurst Public Library offers all local businesses a unique business library card. This business library card entitles each company to use study rooms, meeting rooms, the computer training lab, research tools, wifi, public computers, printers, scanners, and copiers.

How Libraries Serve Businesses

Librarians can help you complete research about starting a new business or growing an established company. Most libraries also have meeting rooms available for library cardholders to reserve. In addition, the library makes conferences, workshops, and classes open to the community and offers free wifi and computer access. Call your library today to learn about the unique resources and services they can offer you and your business.
