Eve and Adam spent the next two days hammering away at Eve’s insistence. She was set on coming up with language that would ensure the universality of the ethic she saw as foundational.

Semiotics was an exercise in futility if it did not embrace all reality. Reality was everything and all things and therefore a universal context embracing all perceptions and logical avenues — abduction, induction. Deduction. Ethics was the logical inference we might draw from our experiences.

This inference was, to Eve, the sense of slow human progress toward wellbeing, toward good, toward civilized behavior. It was the sense that we evolve. It was the sense that we were a fusion of ruled behavior and free play.
