We need to be precise in discussing cults

A cult is a malevolent congregation of those who

Give absolute loyalty to a human being who

Demands and exploits members to achieve ends that

Result in death.

Narcissist rituals are signs of an incipient cult

The use of provocation to produce

Violent means and evil ends

Is standard.

Today cults have become an amalgam of politics and religion

The history of COVID in the US will conclude that

A cult loyal to Trump enabled deaths that

Given rational measures

Would not have been genocidal

This was rarely observed to be the result of Trump’s successful campaign

In the wake of an unprecedented deterioration of national will

The American people finally determined

By a narrow but definitive vote

To remove cult leader Trump from office

The rest is history

A still quiescent populace stands by as Trump continues

To engage in signature acts of cult behavior

Focus on a single leader who does no wrong

Obedience even when asked to commit crimes

Acceptance of absurd lies

Use of religious motifs to suggest these lies are truth

Use of nationalism to poison the political environment

And there is no ready answer

We have no assurance as I write

That any measures that could contain Trump

Are likely to succeed

The only measure that might work would be

A legal action that would expose the cult reality for what it is

And separate Trump from the capacity to incite more violence

Optimists believe the Department of Justice

Is preparing a response

If so the DOJ is being ultra-shy in indicating it

The nation is facing a reality that evokes the most

Noxious dictatorships of the past

All the more dangerous because of the life

Of impunity Trump has managed to wangle

This is not admirable

It is a damning indictment of our ability to see dangers that are palpable and real

There will be no end of this until

There is an end to Trump’s capacity

To act as a leader of what must be seen

As the most dangerous cult in history
